About Us.
RUTH Ministries International is a non-denominational Christian-based global ministry that mobilizes American believers to help fulfill the Great Commission. Founded in November 2001 as a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization, the vision of the ministry is to establish long-term relationships around the world, as God leads and provides, to assist international churches in bringing the Good News of the Gospel. The ministry also combines the meeting of practical needs through a focused, solution based approach.
The name of the ministry is based on Ruth 1:16: "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God."

Doctrinal Statement
I. God - We believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons-the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit-and that these three are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes, and perfections.
II. Jesus Christ - We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, death on the cross to provide for our redemption, bodily resurrection and ascension into heaven, present ministry of intercession for us, and His return to earth in power and glory.
III. The Scriptures - We believe that the whole Bible is inspired in the sense that holy men of God were moved by the Holy Spirit to write the very words of Scripture. This divine inspiration extends equally and fully to all parts of the writings as appeared in the original manuscripts. Therefore, the whole Bible, in the originals, is without error. As the revelation of God, we believe the Bible to be the sole authority and sufficiency with regard to Christian faith and practice. The Scriptures center upon the Lord Jesus Christ in His person and work in His first and second coming, and hence no portion is properly read, or understood, until it leads to Him. The Christian's responsibility and duty is to handle accurately the Word of Truth. The reading and interpretation of the Scriptures is to be under the guidance and illumination of the Holy Spirit.
IV. Man, created and fallen - We believe that man was originally created in the image and after the likeness of God. Adam fell through sin, and as a consequence of his sin, lost his spiritual life. Becoming dead in trespasses and sins, he became subject to the power of the devil. This spiritual death, or total depravity of human nature, has been transmitted to the entire human race of man, the Man Christ Jesus alone being excepted. Thus every child of Adam is born into the world with a nature which not only possesses no spark of divine life, but is essentially and unchangeably sinful apart from divine grace.
V. Salvation only through Christ - We believe that, due to universal death through sin, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless born again. No degree of reformation, no attainments in morality, no baptism or other ordinance or other good works can help the sinner to take even one step toward heaven. Our redemption has been accomplished solely by the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, who was made to be sin and was made a curse for us by dying in our place. We believe that the new birth of the believer comes only through faith in Christ and that repentance is a vital part of believing. Repentance is not in itself a separate and independent condition of salvation. Nor are any other acts, such as confession, baptism, prayer, faithful service, or manifestation of certain spiritual gifts, to be added to believing as a condition of salvation. We believe it is the privilege, not only of some, but of all who are born again by the Spirit through faith in Christ as revealed in the Scriptures, to be assured of their salvation from the very day they take Him to be their Savior. This assurance is not founded upon any discovery of their own worthiness or fitness, but wholly upon the testimony of God in His written word. Such assurance will motivate in God's children love, gratitude, and obedience to His commands.
VI. The Church - We believe that all those who have been redeemed by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ form the Body of Christ, the church. We also believe in the local church as the body of believers in a geographic locale who meet together to worship and serve God, observe the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper, and work together to further the gospel of Christ.
VII. The Great Commission - We believe the explicit message and mandate of our Lord Jesus Christ is to make disciples of all the nations. During His post-resurrection ministry Christ gave two particular commands. First in Matthew 28, Jesus commands us to "Go and Make Disciples of All the Nations." Secondly, just before His Ascension, in Acts 1:8 we are called to be witnesses to "the remotest parts of the earth." The greatest responsibility and privilege of the church is to serve as ambassadors and witnesses for Christ.

Founders
Marshall and Marta Greenman have served in various countries of the world on short-term evangelical mission campaigns as well as other ministry opportunities since 1997. Marta Greenman, at the time a financial advisor, started her mission service by going on an evangelical church planting campaign to Romania with Global Missions Fellowship in June of 1997. In 1998 she applied and was accepted on staff. From 1998 to 2002, Marta served as Church Planting Coordinator on twenty-three campaigns to the countries of Peru, Columbia, Venezuela, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Zimbabwe and Mexico. Marta has led women’s conferences in many of these countries and has also taught Precept Inductive Bible Studies in the U.S. and abroad for several years. She is now directing the Words of Grace and Truth area of the ministry and has published her first bible study titled "Bound To Be Free". Marshall Greenman, at the time a dental technology consultant, began his mission service by going on a dental campaign and helping setup dental clinics in two Romanian cities, Braila and Galatz, in June of 1999. From 1999 to 2001, Marshall served on six evangelical church planting campaigns to Romania, two evangelical church planting campaigns to Moldova and one medical/dental campaign to Jamaica. The Greenmans, who were commissioned by Prestonwood Baptist Church of Plano Texas in April 2002, also co-taught and directed a Bible study at their church. Serving in these third world countries, the Greenmans saw the spiritual as well as the physical needs of the people. While serving in Romania, they felt the burden to do more than just go for two weeks out of the year. In November of 1999, feeling the call to full time service, Marshall and Marta began a two-year journey to find out how they were to accomplish this vision. During this period they also served with Apartment Life Ministries from November 2000 to April 2002. After considerable spiritual research which included constant prayer, seeking Godly counsel with pastors and talking with several ministries, RUTH Ministries International was started.

Where We Serve
Romania
Romania is a curiosity. In the midst of a Slavic world, it is a Latin people with warmth that invites you in, tempers that explode in an instant, friendships that reach deep within and souls that long for hope and meaning. The people have survived centuries of occupations and conflicts, but have held on to their identity and pride. It is a place that brings to light images as varied as the people and cultures that are found there. Now the people are searching to find something to fill the void left by communism and unmet by the state church. A place with hungry people; hungry and searching.
Romania is a place of excitement and change. Starting well before the revolution of 1989, the widespread passion of local believers now continues to grow as they work to spread the Gospel while learning to deal with sin that has resulted from years of living with fears and suspicions.
Romania is a place of opposition. The Romanian Orthodox Church's sense of ownership and control over the people means that they are prepared to fight for their souls against evangelical groups who threaten their influence, power and authority. This religion is plagued with false teaching, rituals and ceremony that obscure the truth of the Gospel.
Romania is a place of poverty. The uncountable numbers of street children who live in the sewers, the children that are prisoners in the orphanages, the families who eat only bread because it is all they can afford and the parents who send their children out to beg on the streets desperately speak of the hopelessness of having nothing to depend on, no future.
There are so many faces to this diverse and unique country that reaching it for Christ is a challenge that takes creativity and a willingness to adapt to not one, but many different peoples and cultures. Romania is home to 18 different identified people groups with almost half never hearing the Gospel and the remaining, though reached with the Gospel, need leadership and church-planting skills as well as the support and encouragement of other believers as they seek to win their own people to Christ.

Romania A Brief History
The people of Romania suffered for decades under a brutal communist dictatorship. Under communism it was the state's policy for everyone to work and to be told where to work. With a monthly wage set at roughly $80 a month, no matter if you were a doctor or factory worker, it was often difficult and most times impossible to feed and clothe an entire family. Older people speak of long lines and hours of waiting to receive one loaf of bread and a bone with barely enough meat on it for one person for one meal. The people were taken from their farms and homes and forced to live in "blocs" which are multi storied apartment buildings. Electricity, heat and water were controlled by the government. It was normal to go without these essentials for days at a time. It was also the state's policy for women of child bearing age to have a minimum of five to six children. Birth control was against the law. It was often difficult and most times impossible to care for the children. Over several decades, this created a society in which the concept of family was destroyed and children were seen as wards of the state. Children were given to the state run orphanages when it was too difficult for the family to care for them. In December of 1989 the people of Romania rose up in revolution, overthrowing the government and executing the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife on Christmas day. At the end of Ceausescu's reign, Romania was regarded as one of the most isolated and gutted of the former communist lands. Communist leaders retained positions of influence and power, but they were not prepared to transform a dysfunctional state-run dictatorship into a functioning free market economy. Romania continues to suffer under the harsh realities of a country trying to change to a free democratic society.
Romania has a socialized medical system. Due to the dramatic financial situation that the country is in, hospitals in only the major cities receive minimum support from the government. Regional hospitals suffer from the lack of adequate equipment of all types, have pharmacies with little in the way of medications and struggle to pay staff and employees on a consistent basis. Because of this, many doctors demand direct "gifts" from patients before services will be received. At the end of 1999 the Ministry of Health stopped the provision of dental care through this system. Due to this decision, dentists were forced to work in the private sector. Because of the economic conditions of the country a majority of dentists have moved to the major cities. Many have been forced to other means of employment or left the country to continue their professions.
Although it has been twenty years since the fall of communism, with the exception of a few major cities, not much has changed. Because of Romania's economic situation unemployment is very high and the majority of families must decide what to pay for with what little money they have; food or utilities. It is not unusual to find families living in bare walled apartments or houses with no electricity or running water. In the larger cities, groups of street children live in the sewers or wherever they can to survive. This is a deadly problem in the winter time in Romania where the temperature can drop well below freezing for months at a time.
There is hope. Romania has made historic changes in many areas of government and law in becoming a member of the European Union. Real religious freedom is being realized for the first time ever.
The reality, though, is that it will take decades before any meaningful changes will be seen in the towns and villages.

Harsova Romania.
The town of Harsova, with a population of approximately 11,000, is located three hours east and a little south of the city of Bucharest, the capital of Romania toward the Black Sea port city of Constanta. Although a strategically located town that includes a regional hospital, the Romanian government designated Harsova as a disadvantaged area in 2001. Unemployment is high. The population is separated into three major people groups: Romanian, Romanian Gypsies and Turkish Gypsies.

A survey of the land.
The evangelical churches in Romania have made remarkable progress toward fulfilling Jesus' commission since the fall of communism in 1989. The 2001 "State of the Evangelical Church in Romania" report from O.C. International shows there are at least 5,000 evangelical churches and 500,000 believers. However there still remains much to do. In that same report it states over 22 million people in Romania do not attend evangelical churches. Only 2% of the population attends life-giving churches. Seven million people live in more than 10,000 villages that do not have a single evangelical church.
In the province of Dobrogea which includes the two counties of Constanta (where Harsova is located) and Tulcea, the evangelical churches have experienced the second highest rate of growth, in the country. Fifty new churches have been started since 1989 giving a total of 77 evangelical churches. Dobrogea has the highest average church planting rate in all of Romania since 1995 (8.76% Annual Average Growth Rate). On the other hand, Dobrogea has the smallest percentage of evangelical Christians of any province in Romania (0.42% or 4,256 people), the fewest churches (77) and thus the fewest number of churches with good potential to start new churches (32). Over 99.5% of the population does not attend an evangelical church. Over two-thirds of the townships do not have a single evangelical church (67 of 95). 290 villages do not have evangelical churches.
In all 271,386 people in rural areas do not have an evangelical church in their village – an astounding 81% of the rural population! The Population to Church Ratio is 12,645:1 in Constanta County. Romania’s cities have very few evangelical churches in comparison with their population.
It is an incontestable fact that in the 1990's God did a wonderful work in Romania. But why should that stop? Is this an impossible mission to continue? Certainly it is an enormous task, beyond our human capability to fulfill in our own strength. But the love of God compels us to reach the lost and Jesus' authority and promise that He will be with us until the end of the age is the surety of victory.

H.I.S. Church
Healthy
To connect internally and to have Healthy family fellowship (Hebrews 10:24-25) with other believers. To give praise and glory (Psalm 71:8) to our Father who is in Heaven. God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good.
Intentional
To reach out externally to the world that does not have Christ as their Savior. To “not be ashamed” (Romans 1:16) to share the Good News of the Gospel to those that are lost. To be intentional to the two Great Commandments that we as believers are given; “Make disciples” (Matthew 28:18-20) and “To be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8). To be clear the only way to receive eternal life is through Jesus Christ; “I am the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6) “and there is salvation in no one else” (Acts 4:12).
Sound doctrinally
To be in complete unison that the bible is our guide, as believers, that was given to us by God. That it is without error (2 Peter:20-21). To have leaders and the whole congregation of the church to speak boldly and without hesitation (Acts 4:20 and 2 Timothy 1:7-8).

Church Strategy
2011 will be a great year of growth and expansion for the ministry.
God has given RUTH Ministries a strategy to make a greater impact. This vision involves starting a church with a model unique to Romania. This church will be led by not one, but a team of three Romanian pastors working in tandem to serve the region. This new church will be concentrated upon discipleship, mentoring, doctrinally sound bible teaching, fellowship and the obedience of reaching outward. The church will also teach the importance of giving so that, in time, it will become a self-supporting ministry. The approach will be focused and intentional by always having at least one pastor to lead the main church, while allowing the other pastors to start new relationships, and ultimately new church starts, in the surrounding communities.
It will live out the Great Commandment and carry out the Great Commission!
As we begin, we ask for your prayers. Also, we pray for those that God has already chosen to be a part of this work. The volunteers, prayer partners and financial partners that will make this vision into a reality. Proverbs 14:23 says that in all labor there is profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. It is time for the labor to begin!

Children's Ministry. Romania suffered under the rule of Romania’s Communist Dictator Nicolae Ceausescu for over 25 years. Women were forced to have at least five children. During that time birth control and abortion were illegal. The goal was to increase the population of pure Romanians and to build a work force out of the impure children (Hungarians, Bulgarians and Gypsies). Because parents of all nationalities could not afford to feed their children, it became an accepted part of Romanian culture to simply give one’s children over to the state run orphanages. These concentration camp like conditions occurred due to the theory that it was the impure children that ended up as wards of the state. This created a society in which the concept of family was destroyed.
In December 1989 the communist government and dictator were overthrown and in just months after the fall the harsh reality of the children left in the state run orphanages were revealed to the world. Food, clothing, blankets, medicine and other necessities were not wasted on them. Due to these horrendous conditions many of the children escaped from these institutions. Thousands upon thousands of children now live on the street and are susceptible to drugs, abuse and the effects of the brutal Romanian winters.
Romania is known as the “Land of Orphans”. To help these children, the vision of the ministry is focused in two important areas. The first is to provide a community center so that all children can have a place where they can feel safe, be loved and taken care of. Second is to provide permanent homes for these infants and young children. These children did not ask to be in this situation and deserve the opportunity to grow up in a safe loving Christian environment.

Outreach Ministry. Due to Romania’s economic situation unemployment is high and the majority of families must decide what to pay for with the little money they have; food or utilities. It is not unusual to find families living in bare walled apartments or houses with no electricity or running water and to find street children in empty buildings, caves or wherever they can to survive. This is a deadly problem in the winter time where the temperature can drop well below freezing for months at a time. Sadly, it is a common site to see children and adults on the streets begging for food.
Whether helping rebuild a roof, spending time with an abandoned child at the hospital, sending a group of young adults to a weeklong Christian youth camp, assisting families with food packages or providing access to healthcare through short term teams, the ministry strives to show the love of Christ through the outreach of these practical needs.

Debbie Stuart, Director of Women's Ministry at Prestonwood Baptist Church
"Marta Greenman is a master teacher weaving Biblical principles, personal stories and clear application with every lesson. She walks in Truth and loves the Word and has dedicated her life to teaching that Truth to women. This study is a must for every Women's Ministry!"
Mike Fetchner, Founder of H.I.S. Bridgebuilders
"Pain and suffering is a part of life. Marta Greenman, in her book, BOUND TO BE FREE, explains theologically that pain is an essential element to the healing process. In her work, Marta addresses the hard questions, such as "Why does God allow pain?", "What part does sin play in our struggles?", "Does God really hear and respond to my cry of pain?" and, most importantly, "How does God heal?" By using a workbook style approach, Marta walks us through the journey of pain with the hope that we can come to an understanding that will result in true and lasting healing."
Dr. Timothy W. Eaton, President of Hillsdale College
"I have worked through the Bible study, "Bound to Be Free" and I believe this will be a valuable tool for many people. If you have ever been disappointed, discouraged, or damaged along life's way this study is for you. I pray that many will find it, engage in it, and learn the power of God that reaches and restores a broken humanity."

What people are saying
Lori Rhudy - Texas - Bound To Be Free looks at biblical truth in contrast to the current world view and guides the reader to a clear personal decision for truth. I don't know that I've ever seen another study address current world view the way this one does, and the decision of what to believe becomes very black and white - very obvious - when world view is laid out side by side with God's word. Even for seasoned believers, this study is an excellent tool to help share biblical truth with young believers or nonbelievers.
Kirsten - Texas - I was just going through Bound to Be Free. Week 4 is about an acceptable fast to the Lord. Marta touched on a experience in her life which really spoke to me. As a young Christian, she was trying to please her earthly father when God spoke to her and said "Stop trying to please your earthly father, start trying to please your heavenly Father, then I will do great and mighty things IN and THROUGH your life." When I read that I thought "Wow! You are saying the exact same thing to me!" Only not my earthly father. I have been working so hard to please my family and show them that I am worth something and not just another statistic. But it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is my pleasing the Lord. That revelation alone helped me feel some freedom from some burdens.

Children's Feeding Program
One of the important projects of RUTH Ministries is the street children’s feeding program. Children can come and receive a hot meal, swap out their dirty clothes for clean clothes, take showers, hear bible stories and if they go to school receive help with their homework. The ministry also attends to any minor medical needs and if needed takes the child(ren) to the hospital to ensure proper treatment. Throughout their time at the program these children receive love, encouragement and hope.

Bobby's Page
As in previous years, the boys and girls of Romania who received gifts were full of smiles. For many this was the first time ever to receive a Christmas gift. In 2008, the ministry had a first happen that was quite amazing. Bobby, the boy in the picture here, told a campaigner
that he had never heard about Jesus. It was not that he didn't know many details, but that he had NEVER heard the name of Jesus and didn't know who He was!
CAN YOU IMAGINE MEETING SOMEONE WHO HAS NO IDEA WHO JESUS IS?
This is one of the many great examples of why RUTH Ministries International has been called to serve in Romania. That is why it is so important to continue the special projects, like the "Greatest Gift" project.
Please know how much we value your participation in going, giving and prayer. Because of your involvement, this young boy now knows who Jesus is and the opportunity of an eternal relationship with Christ.

Are You Ready,
"Ready for what?" you might ask.
How about going to a foreign country halfway around the world spending a week letting Jesus be your hands and your feet and your mouth investing your time in that which is eternal - God's Word and the souls of mankind?
Yes, we know. You may be thinking, "I can't do that…leave the country…take a week off of work or school. I can't _________." How about, instead of worrying about what you can't do, look at what you can do:
You CAN:
worship with people from another culture who desperately want to know who He is.
make friends and build relationships with complete strangers who look different, talk different and act different, yet welcome you with open arms.
hold a 6-month old baby who's been orphaned at the local hospital because her mother cannot afford to keep her.
give food and water to children living on the street.
bring a smile to the face of a child by giving Christmas gifts and sharing about the "Greatest Gift" - the birth of Jesus.
repair a worn-down roof that leaks in when it rains and heat rushes out when it's cold.
get your hands dirty working on the farm and by helping to build things.
see and experience Jesus working in the hearts of lost souls.
So, are you ready? Jesus called believers to "go and make disciples" and to "be My witnesses." He didn't wait until His followers were certain or sure or even comfortable. He simply called them to go. Are you feeling led by God to join Him in furthering Christ's Kingdom? Is your Sunday school class, bible study or mini-church group praying about getting involved in international missions? Do you feel the Call to do something but don't know how to take that first step? If so, then you are ready. You CAN go. And we can help. Find out.

F.A.Q.'s
Could God really use me? The answer to this question is "YES"! Step back and let God take the lead and you will be amazed at what happens!
I have never shared the Gospel? It doesn't matter if you have never shared your faith before, we will help you to learn how.
How long are the trips? Short term campaigns are normally ten days in length. Teams usually leave the U.S. on a Thursday or Friday afternoon and return the following Sunday. There is opportunity to stay longer if you feel God is calling you to extend your stay.
I know nothing about the culture or the language? When you make the decision to go, you will receive an information packet that will explain about the local culture, the local Religion and other information. There will be two to three orientation meetings for you to attend stateside. Once in Romania you will be partnered with a Christian translator who will assist you in sharing the Gospel. These nationals understand how to break down the barriers and have an urgency to have their people understand about the Good News and eternal life.
How do I find out more about campaigns? Look at our campaign schedule. Once you have identified when you can go contact us and we will start you on the process.
How much does it cost to go on a campaign? The costs can vary from $2,500 to $2,800 on up. There are a number of factors; time of year, airline ticket prices, number of members on the team. Also it depends on the type of campaign you wish to go on.
I want to go, but I don't have the money. What do I do? First, don't worry. God is in control. We can walk you through how to raise the needed funds for your trip. We have seen amazing things happen when you reach out to fellow believers and non believers.
Step out of the boat. Pray for God's guidance to show you how you can be a part of making disciples in all nations. Contact the ministry for more information at 469-854-3574.

Campaign Testimonials
David Morrison, Deacon, Prestonwood Baptist Church
Plano, Texas
"RUTH Ministries International is the result of God grabbing hold of a group of ordinary people, and relentlessly directing them to fulfill the Great Commission. It is the perfect example of what happens when faithful believers obey God step by step. It is a privilege to see first-hand how God can take a dark, spiritually oppressed city, and move in such a miraculous way that even unbelievers recognize God's hand at work. In spite of constant opposition, God will continue to use RUTH to reach the lost by meeting the physical needs of impoverished people, and demonstrating in a practical way what it means to be a follower of Jesus."
Darren Parker, Business Leader, Fortune 500 Company
Chicago, Illinois
"In late March 2004 God tapped me on the shoulder and told me to go and see the work HE and his servants were doing in places other than the United States. Through prayers and contacts with friends I met Marshall and Marta Greenman and was first introduced to RUTH Ministries. In Mid April I found myself on a plane to Romania, a place I never dreamed I would visit. I did not know why I was going there, but I knew it was God's Plan and I was excited to be going. My experience in Romania was life changing. I had the pleasure of seeing God mobilize Christians to do His great work. RUTH was the catalyst in my walk with God. I have been truly blessed. I am still amazed yet today, I went to Romania to help people, but I was the one who was helped the most!"
Jill Hall, HR Consultant
Brookfield, Wisconsin
"I love Romania! I can't wait to go back. I don't want to wait until next summer because I formed relationships with people over there that I care about now."
Tamara Stein, College Student
Lake Jackson, Texas
"Spending a month in Harsova was such an awesome experience, I saw God do so much in such a short amount of time. I thought I had gone to Harsova to teach others something, but as it turned out, they were the ones teaching me."

Processing With A Purpose
Who is processing your credit cards?
Choosing the company that processes your credit cards is a decision that should not be taken lightly. Your business may actually be supporting objectionable businesses through the fees that you pay to your credit card processing company. Did you know that many credit card companies and their banks process credit cards for Adult websites and other morally objectionable businesses? Today more than 12 Billion dollars is spent annually in the US on pornography. Many credit card processing companies donate large sums of money from the profit earned on your banking activities to organizations that support abortion, homosexuality, and other morally offensive agendas that directly attack the family. This should not be the case!
That is why Ruth Ministries International is proud to introduce you to Cornerstone Payment Systems and their Processing with a Purpose™ program. Cornerstone processes our credit cards. We selected them because they endorse the same values we share regarding God's order for the family. Cornerstone processes for most businesses but they will not do business with companies that have an agenda which is not God honoring.
Under the Processing with a Purpose program, Cornerstone guarantees to save you money on your current merchant services processing fees or they will pay you $500.00. Also, if you allow Cornerstone to process for your business or ministry, Ruth Ministries International will receive an ongoing donation based upon your processing activity.
We encourage you to contact Cornerstone today. They will respond with a processing quote based upon your most recent merchant statement.
